Provincial and Territorial Licensure Requirements

STEPS TO LICENSURE
Gateway Enrolment
- Enrol in Pharmacists' Gateway Canada and receive a National ID number ($335 + tax, if applicable).
Language Proficiency
- English or French language proficiency may be completed at any time, prior to applying to the pharmacy regulatory authority
- Candidates may apply to a review panel for further consideration
Academic Qualification and Knowledge Assessment
- Successful completion of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) Document Evaluation ($665) and Evaluating Examination ($860)
- Successful completion of the PEBC Qualifying Examination Parts I and II ($2620)
- The process is different for U.S. graduates
Bridging Program
- Mandatory completion of
the Bridging Program
for IPGs (International Pharmacy Graduate Program) offered by the University of Toronto.($13,650)
NOTE: This requirement may be waived if the candidate passes the PEBC Qualifying Examination Parts I and II on the first attempt. Candidate must apply to a panel of the Registration Committee who will determine if any additional education and/or training is required.
Application to
the Pharmacy Regulatory Authority (PRA)
- Application for registration as a student ($94) and then as an intern ($94)
- Must maintain professional liability insurance
- Student registration is valid for two years; intern registration is valid for one year
- Registration as a student is not required for U.S. graduates
Structured Practical Training
- New in 2017: Successfully complete the Practice Assessment
of Competence at Entry (PACE). PACE will assess the candidate’s ability to demonstrate entry-to-practice
competence in a practice setting. If practice performance gaps are identified,
guidance will be offered to candidates to support appropriate individualized
development prior to re-assessment. The practice-based registration requirement
is met when a candidate demonstrates entry-to-practice competence to the
validated standard.
Jurisprudence
- Successful completion of the Ontario jurisprudence examination ($125)
- Exam results are valid for three years from date of completion
Licensure/Registration
- Application for registration as a pharmacist in Ontario ($94)
- Pharmacist New Registrant Annual Fee ($675 per year); pro-rated after August 31 ($337.50)
- Must maintain professional liability insurance
